Holaaaa, Oláaaaa, Helloooo
Did you know we have a WhatsApp channel for weekly news?
Also, follow my Instagram and LinkedIn for daily news.
Firstly, I apologize for the delay in sending the April edition. Due to the events of the last week, it was not possible to finish until Saturday.
And, unfortunately, I need to start the newsletter with the terrible news about the floods in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
The state's worst climate tragedy created "a scenario of war", considered Governor Eduardo Leite. 2/3 of the state is in a state of public calamity, with 83 dead, 111 missing, more than 1 million people affected by rain and 115,000 displaced.
Every help is welcome! The government disclosed the official channels for receiving international donations (read the official statement):

Larger and more mature, Rural Summit establishes itself as a showcase for the agtech ecosystem
Rural Summit 2024 was a tremendous success, and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this event memorable! With over 400 participants, over 60 startups on AgriMatching, and the presence of over 30 investors, corporations and companies of venture capital, we were impressed by the engagement and energy that permeated every moment. Special thanks to Cubo Agro for supporting AgriMatching.
And I had the pleasure of participating in the Agriculture Decision Panel with Fabio de Rezende Barbosa - CEO of NovAmérica Agrícola, Léo Carvalho - Director of Global Strategy at Solinftec and Jose Damico - CEO and Founder of SciCrop®. I’'ll share my thoughts in the next edition.
"We were able to bring to the Summit producers, at the end of the chain, who are using technology, as well as startups that make a difference in the market, innovating and bringing technology to agriculture" celebrated Fernando Rodrigues, partner at Rural Ventures.
Startup Mindscape 2024:
The 'Startup Mindscape 2024' study by MIT Technology Review Brazil, in partnership with Google Cloud, was carried out with more than 100 startup founders, with the aim of profiling entrepreneurs and their challenges.
Among the highlights are:
41% of Brazilian startups don't receive any kind of investment;
For 35%, having financial problems and not being able to keep the company going is the most frightening factor;
When looking for investment, the biggest difficulty for 28% was precisely access to a network of contacts that would connect them to investors.
When looking for funding or a partnership, 37% of those interviewed said they had suffered some form of discrimination, among the main reasons being age (41%), gender (28%) and academic background (18%).
According to the survey, the predominant profile of Brazilian entrepreneurs is male (81% of founders, 79% of CEOs), white (69.23%), heterosexual (87.5%) and from the south-east (77.89%).
Despite the homogeneity of the profile, more than half of those interviewed (51%) said that the main reason for becoming an entrepreneur was the desire to change the world.
Mental and physical health is a concern, because in order to dedicate themselves to the company, 40.38% of the entrepreneurs said they had given up time to relax, 25% stopped doing physical activities, and 10.38% gave up taking care of their diet. Social life also suffers from the entrepreneurial journey. More than 38% of the founders said that they began to spend less time with friends, 22.12% reduced their contact with relatives and 9.62% with family.
